Is there a quick way to build Java UIs? I'd like to start building up an application without first having to worry about how to place text fields, buttons, etc.., on the "page". Any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Once I get the hang of java programming I'll tackle reading more on developing UIs from code but, for now, I'd like to jump right in. Thanks.

You could take a look at JavaFX and FXML: http://docs.oracle.com/javafx/index.html

The major IDEs all have UI builders. I can't comment on any single one in particular, as I've never used them.

Reason being, the Swing apps I work on are fairly small, so I prefer to handcode the GUI. I do make use of pre-made components, though, like the ones mentioned in the http://www.coderanch.com/how-to/java/SwingFaq. If someone told me that those are just as easy to use in the IDE GUI builder as the ones built into the JRE - hey, I might be sold! :-)
