When you say Oracle's focus subsystem tutorial, I take it you mean http://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/uiswing/misc/focus.html
So which part did you not understand in the tutorial?

1) You still haven't told us what you did not understand
2) What trouble are you having passing focus between containers? What has the containers got to do with your problem? The usual way to have a component gain focus is using the request focus in window method.

From the API docs for the requestFocus() method
Note that the use of this method is discouraged because its behavior is platform dependent. Instead we recommend the use of requestFocusInWindow().

What is HContainer and HComponent? They are not part of the standard java library

I find myself unable to offer any further assistance. In my earlier post, I asked you

To this you have just repeated in different forms that "you need a deeper understanding"
You are not offering us any assistance in helping you by conveying what problem you are trying to solve here.
Best way to get help is
1) TellTheDetails
2) Show us your SSCCE code
3) Tell us where you are trying to do and where you are stuck
