Work Near Home or Away ?

+Pie Number of slices to send: Send
I have just passed my B.tech(CS) and looking for a good job.So i went to Bangalore,i see lots of opportunities there but don`t feel good there.
I tried my best to feel good ,but felt so lonely.
One of the problem that i felt is Bangalore is so far.It takes two and half days to reach there. So you can`t go at home easily.
Although Bangalore have better pay and more opportunities.

Now i`m looking to go to ncr(which is closer to my home) which most probably don`t have that much opportunity and higher pay.
It might be possible that i don`t get a job immediately in ncr as there are not much opportunities for fresher.

Its not a one day question but a long term ,i think you must feel good.If i live in bangalore then i have to always punish myself to be in that surrounding.
What should i do .Bangalore or ncr ?

2 and a half days?! Are you walking to bangalore? Did you mean 2 and half hours? I am pretty sure that from Bangalore, you would be able to fly any city in India (with an airport) in 3 hours

First I would say, don't judge a new place based on first visit. WHen you have spent 20 years living in one place with your friends and family, going to a new place and living alone can be a shock. Give yourself time to adjust. You might find something good about living by yourself

Second, Questions like these are very hard to decide because you are comparing something measurable (differrence in pay) with something emotional (being away from your friends/family). It's an apples to oranges comparison. The way you make the comparison easier is by putting a monetary value to the emotional side. Ask yourself this question:- If I did move to Bangalore, what will I need to do get comfortable there? Fly home every weekend? Learn new hobbies? Making new friends? Eat out more? drink more? party more? Put monetary value on those things, and subtract from your Bangalore salary. Is that more than what you would make at home? Alternatively, you can go the other way:- convert the additional money to something emotional that you can enjoy and compare that to something emotional that you have at home. Let's say, with the higher salary you would be able to afford a car, and an awesome entertainment center at home. How does a car+entertainment center compare with staying with your family/friends?

Third, don;t just compare your present salary. Measure opportunity costs too. Think about where you will be in your career Bangalore in 10 years compared to your career at NCR. Will you be willing to give that up to stay with family/friends?

All in all, I usually advise new grads to move out of the house, atleast for a few years. As long as you are a student, you are being told what to do. Maybe not explicitly, but your path through life is more or less directed by someone else, either your parents, or your teachers. You are working now. You are your own master. Go and live by yourself for a while. Get a taste of independence. Learn how to live without help. This is the time to do it. Once you are married and have kids, your life is going to be dictated by your kid's needs. This is the only opportunity you have where you can put your needs in front, and also be responsible for your own actions. That's what being an adult is about. Go, little birdie, spread your wings and fly away
