OCAJP 7 or OCP Java SE 6 certification?

Hi ,

I have planned to write OCAJP 7 certification to learn java and get the certification under my belt. After going through the objectives and materials for this exam i could see that only basic topics were covered. I believe now going through the preparation would only expose to the basic topics and I need to go through OCPJP certification to cover the other Core java topics.

As my purpose is to learn java and get exposed to core java topics, I believe completing the OCAJP would not serve my goal. I am in thought now to complete OCP java 6 programmer certification which would cover more topics than the OCAJP. If needed I can go through the upgrade exam in future for Java 7. But I am not sure which is correct at this point.

Please let me know whether completing the OCAJP 7 or OCP java 6 would be correct at this point for me. Also let me know the pros and cons on going through the both certifications.

Hello Kannappan,

It is true that OCPJP 7 is better, no doubt but if you want to achieve this you will have to pass two exams, OCAJP and OCPJP 7 or OCPJP 6, andOCPJP upgrade. But in our opinion first root is easy as in upgrade exam you may have to face more difficult questions, and also OCPJP 6 is difficult than OCAJP. The reason is when you take an upgrade exam, oracle assume you certificate professional with good experience.

I have three years of work experience i java technology. I would like to feel more confident about my java skills. I like to make the most of the certification exam which i am going through, that is I have planned to write the certification so that i can learn java through some systematic approach and gain confidence through certification in Java.

I am planning to go through SCJP 6 as of now so that i can get certification as well as learn most of the concepts in core java. I think this way i can achieve certification as well as gain knowledge in Java. May be if required i can go through the upgrade exam sometime in the future.

Do you think it is not better to go through SCJP 6 now as JAVA 7 certifications are available ?

I agree that you should go for the OCJP 6 exam first. It is more challenging so you will learn more. And as you noted, you can always take the upgrade exam later which focuses on Java 7 topics if you want to pay for a second exam.

hello, i have just started my career as a java developer.would you suggest that i should go for the OCJP 6 exam?i checked the Pearson site and it has been coded as 1Z0-851.would you suggest me to go for this exam in three month's time?
