Hi All,

In reference to Section 3.5 of the Servlet 3.0 specification, Request Path Elements I tried a sample on Glassfish 3.1.2. There is no web.xml in the project.
The response is generated by a completely unexpected element.
The response is being generated by Servlet 3 - JSPServlet.
The request URL is - http://localhost:8080/TheRequestPathElement/

Can someone please explain.
Following is the web-app organization,

Servlet 1 -

Servlet 2 -

Servlet 3 -

In addition to this, to get more clarity, I have added an HTML file in the below folder structure,
APP/WebContent/lawn/index.html

Hi All,

Preempting any response.
The request URL -
http://localhost:8080/TheRequestPathElement/

is translated by the container to,

http://localhost:8080/TheRequestPathElement/index.jsp

as it should be and is hence handled by the JSPServlet. I am hence closing this topic.

Regards,
Anirudh.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
