Use of Oracle in built JVM (..COMPILE JAVA SOURCE NAMED..)

+Pie Number of slices to send: Send
I had used Oracle in built JVM 4 years back. I know it has been in existence since oracle 8i.
And is being shipped in database since then.

When i say Oracle JVM it means compiling source code like

CREATE OR REPLACE AND COMPILE JAVA SOURCE NAMED "XYZ" AS
import java.lang.*;

I am trying to find out if it is being used in real applications today.

Please share your views if you know it is being used and if so how extensively.

Do you mean Java stored procedures in an Oracle database?

My RDBMS and PL/SQL savvy colleagues use this technique to write functionalities not provided by the standard packages.
For example there is a package to read/write directly from and to files from a stored procedure,
but the possibility to obtain a file list of the given directory is utterly missing.
Well, not until it is provided by a Java procedure.

Yes i meant the java stored procedures. I am not sure how extensively it is used. I was looking for whole business logic being run in the java procedures. As i believer java stored procedures faster than pl/sql
