I am working on an Intranet Mail Server project and i want to timeout the session if user not perform any action but problem i am facing is that my ajax is working behind and checking the database after every 5 seconds and during checking it is taking the username from the session , so basically my session is being accessed after every 5 seconds automatically without the interruption of the client so please tell me how to timeout the session ?

Each request will restart the session timer. If you want the main page to "time-out" after a certain period, that's something you'll have to handle yourself.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
