It was fun to come to the ranch today and see the Jack O' Lantern moose. Enjoyed the Ada Lovelace moose , the Pirate moose, allllllllll the moose. I copy some of the unusual moose to my desktop so I can see them after their special day is gone. I even send the site address to my SO so she can see the festive moose. She doesn't want to know anything about Coding or Java but she will visit the site to see the moose.

Thanks to the person people who make me smile when I land on the ranch.

Glad that you are enjoying the "theme mooses". We have a lot of fun making them.

The jack-o-moose was one of the first theme mooses, if I recall correctly. (And I'll take credit for coming up with it. Someone else -- ankit, I believe -- added the animated bat.)

Found the threads where the mods started discussing it. Back in Oct of '08, some troublemaker (ahem...) suggested it. Apparently it had been done occasionally before (I think April 1st was a common date to do it), but Bear immediately jumped on the Moose-o-Lantern. From what I can tell, someone then suggested the fly become a bat, and that was added - but as a static image. Then possibly a year later, it was changed to an animated .gif.

Over the years, we have gotten suggestions from all kinds of people for what to recognize or what might be cute.

But it certainly has been something to which many, many people have contributed.
