Just intrigued to know why you need Open Office?

Randall: That means you aren't getting the full download. Is it possible your internet connection is dropping?

James: What's wrong with Open Office. I use it on my Mac for editing documents, spreadsheets, etc.

There is nothing wrong with Open Office, except that it is no longer open. When Sun were taken over, Oracle passed OO to Apache, who took away its open source status. So all the Linux downloads nowadays have LibreOffice, which is very similar.
I use it all the time; it is a good office suite.

Sorry, but what are you talking about? The OO source code has been available under the LGPL during the Sun/Oracle times, and now under the Apache license, which is considered to be both Free and Open Source. That many Linux distros now ship LibreOffice instead of OO has nothing to do with licensing.

Guys

Just to clarify, I am not ditching Open Office, just interested in projects which use it - never worked with it before.

I've used it as my primary Office tool for many years. The only problem I had was was trying to make a presentation in Impress. But documents and spreadsheets have been just fine.

lol

i need it mainly for the icons i stole for my own word processor. i lost it(and them) during a computer crash and to remake it i need to re-steal the icons for stuff like bold italic right left justified etc.
my problem is the partial downloads. i downloaded firefox, wordpad++, the API....but i now can't seem to get the SDK(JDK), and i had the same problem trying to get open office).
i have tried two different browsers and two different wifi locations
i will try again right now....i can't figure it out, is there some browser setting i don't know about or what? it's a brand new computer so....

Randall,
The files you are having trouble downloading are all large. Could it be a browser/ISP timeout?

my bad. I said I tried both IE and Firefox. but it seems once I got firefox I just used it. the file is downloading fine now in IE. Microsoft has me on the rope
I might just try Chrome. firefox is now in bed with yahoo(whom I have never liked)

hell, I got java downloaded but it won't install.

i'll try to figure that out while I get open office. I need it for more than just the icons lol

well, i have open office now

something wrong with java though. it won't install. i tried to download it again and now it gives me a partial download again

i'll just keep trying later
