There are lots of reviews on Amazon talking about Murach's style. What's the style indeed? How is it different from other programming books?

Thanks!

Our books look and feel different than most other programming books because we present all text on the left-hand page and all code, screen captures, tables, etc. on the right-hand page. We think this helps you learn more while reading less. Also, we think this makes the book work well as a reference book. To see how this works, you can download a sample chapter:

Thanks!

That looks like it would be excellent for my reading style. When I read programming books I have developed the habit of reading the text first, then coming back and reading examples from beginning to end, possibly even after I have finished the entire chapter or section. Neat!
