An invitation from the Oracle Java Certification team:

Oracle Certification would like to partner more closely with technologists in areas that are relevant to the Oracle Certification Program. We see that JavaRanch is well regarded in the industry and would like to ask for your help in completing and promoting an upcoming survey for candidates and hiring managers. In return, as we release new exams that may be relevant, we'd like to provide our partners (like JavaRanch) with "sneak peeks" of the new exams, exclusive tips for preparation, and a voice in our own blog from time to time. We are excited about this new direction and hope to continue to build this relationship.

Oracle Certification and Server Technologies Curriculum Development are working together to build two new Java EE7 Certification exams and surrounding courseware.

An Oracle certification is typically associated with a particular role related to a single technology. In the case of Java EE7, the technology is very broad and comprehensive. We are looking to you and the industry to validate our definition of these job roles. Our assumption and preliminary investigation shows that programmers and developers working with Java EE technology design and create applications using front-end technologies and/or server-side enterprise technologies. To that end, we have created a survey to help quantify the relative importance and depth of the technologies that relate to front-end and server-side development with Java EE7.

We are asking Java professionals to spend 10-15 minutes to complete this survey to help to define the scope of the new certifications. In particular, we are interested in individuals who are:
• Currently working with Java EE 7 technology or have plans to develop with Java EE 7 in the near future.
• Ideal candidates have 2-4 years experience with the previous Java EE technology versions.
• Should be well-versed in development trends.
• Recruiting and/or hiring candidates to develop Java EE 7 applications.
• Ideal candidates have 2-4 years experience hiring Java developers into a variety of roles, including front-end and server-side development.
• Should be technically savvy and be able to articulate the skills and knowledge they believe are required to staff successful Java Enterprise Edition front-end and server-side projects.
• Should have an opinion about the direction the industry is headed.
We would love for you to help us spread the word about this survey through your professional networks. The survey will remain open through the end of November.

Thanks Bert, that was good place to voice my disgust at the new mandatory prices (must attend an instructor led '$$$$') for some of the certifications.

Hi Bert

I will do Oracle survey after this post.

I want Oracle to design one new Cert related to "Java Security" [ may be - Oracle Certified Java Security Programmer].
We all know that for any web or desktop application, security always play key role.
Large percentage of web application Username/Cert based login mechanism.
In addition, Client always ask us to make/code/design application with utmost care to avoid any security attacks/hacking etc.
We all can agree that Java do provides some good API to implement Security feature

Oracle can design a Certification around JSSE and JAAS API. So cert exam topics can be
a. JSSE API features
b. JAAS API features
c. Security features that can be applied in Web Container
d. Security features that can be applied in Application Server (means EJB etc)
e. Importance of security folder and cacerts file present in JDK distribution
f. Best practices while applying JSSE and JAAS API
g. HTTPS protocol and TLS based Handshaking

I would not like to add Network layer Security topics in this certification as for that , we already have network level security certification.

I want to forward this new Certification request to Oracle. How can I do it ? Do Oracle website have any web page where in I can place this request.

Thanks
Abhay Agarwal

Apologies for replying again, I would like to suggest one small/minor improvement in Core JDK. How can I suggest that improvement to Oracle Java team so that (if like my idea), can implement in any upcoming JDK release ?

Also, I would to suggest a JSR topic to Oracle Java team. I want one API/Specification which Oracle can make in near future. How to suggest this JSR topic to Oracle team?
