hey guys I've been programming lately to improve my logic. I have a question though.

I want to make a minor project that will open an excel file and count t the number of "there is" words in the word doc file. can java do this? or is there another software that needs to be used to join them up

what will be needed? or can I just use a simple ide like netbeans

Of course core Java isn't going to have APIs that deal with one company's proprietary formats. You'll need to use 3rd-party APIs such as POI for things like that.

You need to download POI and add its jar files to your classpath. It doesn't matter which IDE you use, or if you use none.
