All my customers are always wanting to have Websphere manage the database connection instead of letting our application do it. Well, a lot of times, that connection goes away and then the customer asks me to troubleshoot the reason the web app isn't working. I tell them to talk to their websphere expert to figure out why the DB connection isn't being maintained.

First- Why are these folks always wanting WebSphere to manage the connection?
Second- How can they figure out why the DB connection keeps getting dropped?

thanks!!!

I'd want WebSPhere to manage the connections too. The container is good at that.

Dropped connections are using a connection pooling setting that is incorrect. For example, maybe the min # connections is too high and there are stale connections.

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
