Does it? Haven't read HF Java.

Anyway HF Design Patterns talks about design patterns - tools to help you design or solve common problems many people had experienced. The book covers some of the Gang of Four (GoF) design patterns.

Google is your friend here. Search for "design patterns" and you'll find endless information about it. It'll be easier than me try and explain it badly here.

It's for your "next stage" and, as the others have hinted at, there are oodles of books out there on the subject (and just FYI, the "Gang of Four" book that was mentioned is this one). HFJ wants you to read HF Design Patterns because it's part of their series.

My advice: Design books can get a bit esoteric, so make sure that you're happy you understand everything you've read about in HFJ, and confident about writing Java programs, before you try to tackle design patterns.
