Hey all,
I've been a frequent visitor of the ranch for awhile now and never realized that I hadn't registered :O
I'm glad to be here and engaging

I was wondering if I could pick some of your brains.
I've been looking for a Java book(preferably Java 7) that gives project ideas or problems that I can complete to
keep my skills sharp and possibly delve into areas of Java I haven't before.
I'm not looking for any of your ideas, I'm just not creative at all.
Please don't share any ideas that you've had yourself and may implement.
I just need a few end goals to get started :P

Any book references, lists, or other ideas would be greatly appreciated.
I'm looking for project ideas, situations, or tool ideas that I can design then implement.
A book reference would be preferred would since I'd like the specs given to me.

Thank you for your time, thoughts, and ideas.

Welcome to the Ranch.

Easiest way to get project ideas is to draw inspiration from real life around you. Is there any small coffee shop who could use some system to streamline their business? Ease customer service? Centralized purchase? How about traffic signals? Elevators? Sky is the limit when you imagine!
Start off small. Maybe a command line tool. Throw in a UI later on. Migrate to web based system. Can it be made a distributed system? Once you got the core ready, maybe evaluate if it makes sense to add more functionality e.g. search, log monitoring and notifications etc.

Thanks alot,
The problem is I can't see those needs
The ones I do see unfortunately have technologies or hardware that I don't have access to or can't afford :P

I only have 2-3 ideas so far but I'm looking for more in case I get annoyed with one and want to come back to it. My ideas:
A CMS
An Airplane ticketing system
A 2D Life Simulator which certain rules applied to it.
Replicate Mario lol
