Problem in Styling Menu Item

Hi all,

I am having a problem in styling my menu items.

No matter what I try I cannot change the text of my menu-items and its hover properties.

I also want to add some Icons to it and change its background color. And I have no idea how to do this.

Can someone help me?

By the way I am using JavaFX Scene Builder to create scenes and I use CSS in styling.
