Hey everyone,
I'm extremely new to programming. Im interested in learning java so i got me a book and a reference to this site from that book. The issue i need help with is seeing my test codes. I downloaded JSE 7; the link is here in case it was the wrong one:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk7-downloads-1880260.html
I downloaded the windows x64

Then i downloaded Notepad++ so i could code small tests and run it.

But when i hit run a black box comes up then goes away in less than a second.

Things I've tried:
Regular notepad
Saving file as .Java / .javac
Crying

So i need the help. Thank you!!

As we often advise people who are brand new to Java and / or programming, it's better to start with something simple such as Notepad++ and the command prompt instead of diving into an IDE like Eclipse right away. Eclipse is not a very easy program to understand; if you try to learn programming, Java and Eclipse all at the same time, you might make it harder for yourself than necessary.

I don't know where the "run" is that you hit, but you should just use Notepad++ for editing, and use the Windows command prompt for compiling and running your program.

Oracle's Hello World Tutorial explains step by step how to write, compile and run your first Java program using a text editor and the command prompt.
