I am looking through some files and I came across this syntax. What is this? An object? A function? And what are the labels with the colon, like 'items:' and 'title:'? Also, the Ext.define, is that some kind of defined namespace? Where can I learn more about this?

It's just JavaScript object literal notation. Any book on JavaScript will describe it. (It's the precursor to JSON, which is similar but has stricter rules.)

Ext is a JavaScript library. Ext.define is just one of the methods in its namespace.

Simple example:

Creates an object referenced by x with two properties, a and b, respectively initialized to number 1 and string '2'.

Same as:
except more elegant, and can be used as an expression, as in your example.

This is a key concept to understand if writing any JavaScript using libraries like jQuery or ExtJS.
