I'm not having much success applying for internships or even voluntary roles. At this point, I just need to be in a programming environment and watch a professional do his job.
Would anybody be willing to allow me to shadow them a few days a week? Maybe I can look for bugs or write documentation or something. I don't mind doing random errands either but the main thing is I want to learn about the software development process.
I'd only ask that my travel expenses get covered. I'm based in London, let me know if you are interested.
Objective: Build some real life experience whilst I am studying for the OCJP 7 exam and applying for a Junior Java Developer role.
Qualifications: - Oracle Certified Java 7 Associate Programmer. Passed in Jan 2014 with 78%
- BSc in Computer Science with Games Technology at City University, achieved 2:2 in 2007
Experience: - No commercial Java experience. But I did write a Tic Tac Toe application with basic AI and Swing
- 2008-2013 I worked as a repair engineer before I was made redundant. I would repair security equipment, analyse equipment log data, troubleshoot over the phone, maintain records and work with bespoke software. I worked within a team and also independently without supervision. I also provided full office and reception support.
Skills: - In addition to studying for the OCJP7, I have been reading through Head First Servlets and JSP. I was able to set up Tomcat and write a very simple application using Servlets and MVC.
