How do I achieve a TextBox with Drop-Down box with a single control?

You don't. It's just not supported in HTML. You will need to create a composite control (or find one already written).

The closest you'll get in 'regular' HTML is a text input with a <datalist>.

Not that well-supported as of yet. So much good stuff coming up -- I wish the browsers would adopt faster! (Though I understand the reality…)

If you are using jQuery, look at the jQuery UI Autocomplete widget. It might do what you are looking for.

I just started using it on my latest project where the user needs to pick from a list of over 3,000 part numbers. That's a bit much for a select/option control.

This thing is working out great except it seems a bit flaky if you tab out of the control and then back into it. I'm still tweaking the JS code for this app to get it just the way I want it. I'm doing several new things (new to me) with this app and it's taking a lot of time and testing.
