I'm not sure if this question will be answered. May I please know with home much of RAM does Coderanch operate? I'm in the process of buying a Virtual server hosting and I have narrowed down on a plan that would guarantee me 2 GB of RAM, but extendable to 4 GB. I'm not sure though if it would be enough for hosting MongoDB. Even though the underlying technology stack for Coderanch is completely different to what I have (Play Framework and MongoDB), I would like to know the RAM size that you guys have. Please let me know!

If this was my problem I'd ask someone knowledgeable about MongoDB how much RAM and how much hard disk space would be realistic for the data volume you expect.

The ranch server is higher-powered than it probably needs to be, but it runs a lot more than just the forums. There are several other web apps also served by it (like http://www.javaranch.com and http://www.coderanch.com/how-to, and some others), and the DB that serves all those web apps also runs on it. It's a dedicated machine, not a virtual one. So I don't think you could draw any meaningful information from its numbers.

There is unfortunately very little option for me other than to buy a virtual server hosting that would offer me just 2 GB RAM. It is that is all that I can afford for now. I know comparing against Javaranch is not going to give me any hint, but I'm aware what sort of load the ranch takes and I just thought what would the server would look like to take such a load.
