It is the asterisk symbol (*) inside getResource method.

Remove the asterisks from those lines.

That removes the error but when the program is run now it throws a whole bunch of expressions. The asterisk was on the code that I viewed in a video and it seemed to compile and run fine with it in there. Thanks anyways.

Maybe the asterisk were inside the string? Like this: "*/dice4.gif"? I'm just guessing...

What video are you referring to?

Viewing code in a video? Learning programming from videos? Me not like... But this is just a matter of preference ;)

Yes I hate video learning too but it just so happens that my class uses this as a learning tool.

this is the culprit:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igsQOmodzbU

And I have tried moving and deleting the asterisk and I still get errors that are unreadable if you ask me.

I saw this video. There were no asterisks in code!

Also, are you sure you have those graphics in correct directory?
I think JVM can't find those files and getResource returns null as described in javadoc thus NullPointerException.

My 2 cents: I don't think this video is good for learning. It teaches you an IDE (NetBeans in this case) not the Java language...
And maybe I am nitpicking but there is no reason to initialise random to 0 like this:This could be replaced by one-liner

Got it! I saved the die.png files into a wrong part of the package. Thanks everyone.

You realise you can create the file names as Strings?
String fileName = "./Dice" + number + ".gif";
That will save messing about with switch blocks.
