I must be missing a bracket or an import somewhere in this small bit of code. Can someone tell me what is wrong and why all my swing KeyWords are all getting errors. Thanks

It's always a good idea to include the text of the errors, verbatim.

It should be
public class list1 extends JFrame.

and after you have corrected extend to extends, you need to change the line
private JPanel deckList;
to
private JList deckList;
and then you'll be able to run your app

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
