After the connection pool has been filled with 10 connection if all the connections are deleted pool.getConnection(); returns the following error:
:com.ibm.as400.access.ConnectionPoolException: The connection does not exist.
I thought that if there were no connections available in the connectionPool the pool would create a new connection.

Is that what the documentation says? I'm not going to hunt down the documentation myself because I assume you have access to it, but generally for connection pools I would expect them to only support a limited number of open connections at one time. Typically you can configure the maximum number, but it isn't going to be infinite.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
