Just wanted to let everyone know that I passed my SCEA part I exam today! :-)
I work as a technical architect and have been in the business for about 10 years so came into this knowing the basics. I gave myself a month of preparation which consisted of 30-60 minutes a day reading on the subway and cleared it at 70% which is about where I wanted to be.
The materials I used to prepare were;
- Mark Cade's book
- JEE Tutorial
- Core J2EE patterns
I also used the Whizz Labs exam preparation kit, which is worth the $100ish dollar price tag. The English is a little "Indian" in places, but don't let that distract you. The sample exams give a very good idea of the types and things that need to be thought about in preparation. I was getting around the 70% mark on the practise exams so overall I think they're a decent preparation tool. However, I feel that the real questions were either much harder or slightly easier than the Whizz Labs ones so it ended up balancing out. For example, I found the patterns questions much easier in the real exam but the more technical questions were harder. Overall, I found the real test tougher than the sample exams for roughly the same marks - and the real one took me 1hr 30mins where's I was smashing the sample ones in about 45 minutes.
In terms of the questions, I'm not allowed to say anything about them but there were a lot about fashion websites.
Anyway, thanks for all the help provided on here and now it's onward with part II!
