Hi,

My computer is connected to a scanner via the WiFi network. I want to build a script that tells that scanner to scan a document, then uploads the digital copy to a server. I use a computer that runs Mac OS X 10.9, and an HP ePrint printer, but I want the script to be as independent of scanner driver and computer OS as possible.

Do you need the script to be written in Ruby?

I know there is the TWAIN interface for scanners, it might suit your needs. Perhaps there are others, though. And I believe I've worked with a scanner which didn't support TWAIN, so it might not be as universal as one would hope..
