Should I skip standard JSP tags and learn Expression Language/EL instead ?  RSS feed

My book - Murach JSP and Servlets says that JSP tags are generally not used today, since the JSP 2.0 spec. It is better to use EL instead.
Is this correct ? Should I skip JSP standard tags and do EL instead ?

Yes, modern JSP uses the JSTL and EL. Scriptlets and the old tags are obsolete (though plenty of people are still writing JSPs as if it were still 2001 -- mystifies me.)
