Hi, is there a good, beginner friendly, example and problem rich resource for learning collections quickly ? I also need 1 or more real world applications of each data structure.
For example, HashMap can be used to represent a language dictionary. Two keys i.e words can have the same value i.e meanings - synonyms.

Please suggest something. I've forgotten a lot about collections and all I remember is ArrayList and HashSet. I saw the oracle tutorials, but they
I don't like them because they are not in the form I need. Any other resources in the style of head first java ?

Thanks.

That's a shame that you only remember ArrayList and HashSet. Fear not, I'm sure you can pick up the rest soon enough.

Don't know how detail or simplified you want it to be but a very very very simplified summarized version of the collections API can be found at here. The PDF at the end of it may be a useful reference.

Other collections API articles here (from the same site) may be helpful too.

Thanks. I wish these guys would also give many common, practical applications of these data structures instead of giving nothing or giving esoteric ones. Eg. Queue for queue or waiting line, Map for English dictionary and telephone directory etc.
Most tutorials only do blah, blah and regurgitate api's and class diagrams. Once I learn, I am going to make my own tuts.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
