request.getAttribute() returns null

(Using Struts)
I write request.setAttribute("sid","sid"); in a jsp which on click goes to a Action class.

When i try reqest.getAttribute("sid"); in the execute() i am getting null

please help

Struts uses MVC (model view controller). A submission works by first going to the action and then the JSP. The JSP ends the request.

This means that you are setting the request attribute in the previous request to the the one the action is receiving. Why not pass the sid as a request parameter using a form? That is the traditional way to pass data to a request.
