A possible book for you to look at would be Java Cookbook. It doesn't have excersives per se, but it has all sorts of examples by topic.

Hi,

I'm using "Java How to Program" by Dietel and Dietel. Plenty of exercises at the end of each chapter.

BR,

Tony.
