New rancher: would like book suggestions for beginners  RSS feed

hey everyone.... I am from india and i am new to this forum......
but not new to programming.... I have learnt c++ in my 11 th and 12 th standard..... And i am very much familiar with the basics oops concepts and c++ concepts..... I am very interested in c++
i heard of java language many times but not got a chance to study it....
...nowaday i am free and want to know more about java ..... I studied some starting topics for java on the internet and found them pretty much similar to thise od c++......
guys please suggest a good book for me by which i can quickly revise the basic... I.e . oop and + as much as possible of java ......

I suggest you try Head First Java 2nd Edition by Kathy Sierra and Bert Bates. Since it is a rather old book you can probably get second hand copies for a very reasonable price.

Thinking in Java (4th Edition) by Bruce Eckel is another commonly recommended book. It's a little dated as well, but the content is still relevant and if I remember correctly, it does assume some previous programming experience and is geared toward people making a transition from another language (been a while since I looked through it). Start with Head First Java, its the best one for beginners. All the concepts are explained in a very easy to understand way , it will be a breeze to learn the language with the help of this book.
