HI I am a fresher looking to get certified

To pass the exam: Java SE 7 Programmer I 1Z0-803

I already have these books

1) SUN CERTIFIED PROGRAMMER FOR JAVA 6 EXAM 310-065 (SIERRA AND BATES)
2) Oracle Certified Professional Java SE7 Programmer Exams 1Z0-804 and 1Z0-805: a Comprehensive OCPJP 7 Certification Guide: S G Ganesh (Author), Tushar Sharma (Author)

Are these two books enough to pass : Java SE 7 Programmer I 1Z0-803 ???

There is a book available specially for SE7 which i dont have and its price is also very high
OCA Java SE 7 Programmer I Study Guide (Exam 1Z0-803) (Oracle Press) by Edward G. Finegan and Robert Liguori

MY question is
The book SIERRA AND BATES SUN CERTIFIED PROGRAMMER FOR JAVA 6 sufficient enough to pass the exam Java SE 7 Programmer I 1Z0-803???
because i dont want to buy Edward G. Finegan and Robert Liguori. Its price is high enough

Hey

First you said your a fresher , it depends if your new to programming and/or Java . If your new to programming(like i was when i started ) i think it would be a mistake to start study for the certification using a book written with this aim in mind .Even if you manage to get the cert you would not win much part from the " paper " . You should start with introductory book in programming /java . I advice Intro in Java Programming (the 10 th edition) probably not the best one at explaining concepts but it excellent in your case as it has usually more then 30 exercises on each chapter to enforce the theory and give you some skill at problem solving( witch you will never get from just studying ) , also is has allot of validation / verification with questions trough the chapter and a quiz at the end of each chapter . Another option that allot of people recommended is Thinking is Java ( it starts the book very fast with OOP concepts - only for this fact i think it's a valid option) . Other options are The art and science of Java ( found the way the theory of java introduces excellent and it has the most clear and logical explications at list for me) and Head First Java ( i haven't used it myself but people say it s good trough i must say i think it's a bad choice for someone new in programming).

If you already have Java experience and already know most of the concepts of OOP you can start directly with the books aimed at passing the Java SE 7 Programmer I 1Z0-803 and the valid options here book wise are :

1) SUN CERTIFIED PROGRAMMER FOR JAVA 6 EXAM 310-065 (SIERRA AND BATES) (covers around 95% of the topics in the exam so you must take care of the ~ 5% from other sources) See http://www.coderanch.com/t/594049/ocajp/certification/Updated-OCA-study-materials
2)OCA Java SE 7 Programmer I Certification Guide: Prepare for the 1ZO-803 exam (Mara Gupta) - it's easy to read with allot of images and analogies but i m not sure it includes everything or the complex concepts and situations , keep in mind i haven't taken the exam yet so i might be wrong

There is one more very advisable step in the preparation : mock exam aka validation and verification but we can detail that one once you get there ...

Mala's book does cover everything on the exam.

Sagar: You'll be fine with the books you already own.
1) SUN CERTIFIED PROGRAMMER FOR JAVA 6 EXAM 310-065 (SIERRA AND BATES)

The earlier chapters of this book do cover almost everything on the exam. There are two topics you should read about independently, but they are small. You can use the Oracle tutorial for that. See topics 1 and 2 on this page. (switch with Strings and numeric literals

As already mentioned by fellow ranchers this book will cover most of the topics. The 1st post in this thread mentions which chapters and/or sections you'll need to know. You also need to cover a few specific Java 7 topics (as mentioned in Jeanne's post). It's just about a simple and easy changes in the Java syntax, so with a good online resource (like Oracle's tutorial) that should not be any problem at all.

If you really want to buy a book especially written for the OCAJP7 certification exam, I would suggest buying Mala Gupta's OCA Java SE 7 Programmer I Certification Guide. At this moment the best book on the market (but that's just my opinion of course). On Amazon the custom reviews score is 4.5/5 based on 43 reviews (for the book by Edward G. Finegan and Robert Liguori it is 3.4/5 based on 69 reviews)

The 2 major mock exam providers: Enthuware & WhizLabs. Based on experiences of other ranchers the Enthuware one is the better and more popular one.
