Hi Guys,

I am planning to take the Java Professional Level certification for Java 7.

From the oracle Website, i understood that the attachment describe the way to achieve the Professional certification.

To get OCPJ SE 5 & 6 there is no pre-requisite i.e, no OCAJ SE 5 & 6 and we can directly apply for the OCPJ SE 5 / 6. To get certification in these two versions, we have SCJP5(310-055) & SCJP6(310-065) by Kathy Sierra & Bert Bates books available.

Only for the OCJP SE7 there is a pre-requiste i.e., OCAJ SE7. Where as there is no SCJP 7 by K&B yet? I read in our forum that SCJP6 covers almost 95% of the syllabus for OCJP7. Is my understanding about the certification paths correct? please clarify.

Thanks in advance,
Ganesh

First of all a warm welcome to the CodeRanch!

Your understanding of the paths is correct If you don't have any certification, you have 2 different paths, both requiring 2 exams:
  • OCPJP5 or OCPJP6 + upgrade to OCPJP7
  • OCAJP7 + OCPJP7

K&B will provide a book for both the OCAJP7 and OCPJP7, but it isn't finished yet.

That's not true! K&B6 covers 95% for OCAJP7. More details you'll find in this topic. For OCPJP7 a bunch of advanced topics (jdbc, localization, nio2.0, concurrency,...) were added to the exam. None of these topics are covered by K&B6. That's one of the reasons why K&B7 isn't available at this moment.

    Hope it helps!
