I need to have my laptop battery replaced next week. When I was there today, they said I should create a guest account. (I have two accounts on my laptop - my password protected one and postgres' password protected one.)

Why do they need/want a guest account? It doesn't seem like changing a battery warrants this. They change the battery and checks it boots up, no?

Hmm, dunno. When I had a battery problem with a previous laptop, they just gave me a new battery.

Probably to run some diagnostics on the battery. These days laptop batteries come with software installed, collect data, etc.

When I changed my battery, they asked me for root access, which I flatly refused. Then they used the guest account to run some 'diagnostic' tests and changed the battery. I really wish the Apple guys would share some information instead of just acting pricey. We are not exactly imbeciles not to understand what they might say

I set up a guest account and "child protected" it to give it almost no access. They didn't need that either, but I figured they couldn't do harm with that account.
