how to connect remotely to mysql using mysql work bench on ubuntu

mysql database is on another machine and i need to access the data on the computer using mysql workbench on ubuntu os and i don't have complete privilege of ubuntu . i try establish connection using manage connection on mysql workbench but still unable to establish the connection.
kindly provide me the steps to connect to the mysql database remotely.

I access a remote MySQL using Work Bench by using an SSH tunnel which means that MySQL only has to be configured for local operations. Of course it does mean I needed to install an SSH server on the machine running MySQL but I need SSH running anyway for maintenance.
