how to change the attribute value of an element using javascript?

suppose there is a div tab:

<div id="d" class="firstClass"></div>

how do i change the class value to changedClass i.e.,

<div id="d" class="changedClass"></div>

using javascript

Using jQuery: $('#d').removeClass('firstClass').addClass('changedClass');

Without jQuery: use jQuery

P.S. You cannot "change" a class; you can remove and add classes.

P.P.S. Be aware that an element can have multiple classes that are denoted by a space-delimited list.

Except that your solution is not complete or scalable. If there are other classes they will be wiped out by your statement.
