Hi Kalyan,

My book teaches the Java language and key APIs (e.g., Collections Framework) as a prerequisite to getting into Android app development. Although Chapter 1 briefly introduces Android (in terms of history, architecture overview, and a sample app), the book doesn't have much to say about Android, until Appendix C.

Appendix C "Getting Started with Android" introduces Android app development. This 96-page PDF file is included in the book's code file, which you can freely download by pointing your browser to http://www.apress.com/9781430264545, clicking the Source Code/Downloads tab, and clicking the Download Now link.

Appendix C accomplishes three tasks:

1) It shows you how to download/install necessary software and create/start/explore an Android virtual device.
2) It introduces you to fundamental architectural concepts (e.g., activities, manifest, intents).
3) It presents three example apps. You learn about the app source code and also how to create/install the app via command-line tools or Eclipse -- I introduce Eclipse in Chapter 1.

All the best.

Jeff
