As a Java book and online reader I'm interested to view the contents of this book.

I'm currently a web developer but currently have no experience in Android development but am eager to learn.

The following are my questions regarding the book.
1. Does this have instructions on how to install the requirements (such as Eclipse/Android Studio IDE, Android SDK etc) as an Android developer? If so, does it also include the URL where to download or the installer version used?
2. Does this have example/s or exercise/s on how to create, make and run/debug an android application?
3. How many pages are there and the dimension of the book?

Thanks and god bless

Hi Winston,

My book focuses on teaching Java language and APIs that are common to Android and Java. Although I introduce Android in Chapter 1, the book's emphasis is learning Java and not Android.

However, I have included a free 96-page Appendix C that introduces Android in terms of tools, architecture, and example apps. I explain each app's source code and resources and show how to develop the app via command-line tools and Eclipse -- I introduce Eclipse in Chapter 1. Appendix C is distributed as a PDF file in the book's code file -- see http://www.apress.com/9781430264545, click the Source Code/Downloads tab, and click the Download Now link.

One of the apps (the Hello, World app) demonstrates various logging APIs and how to view logcat messages, which is useful in debugging.

All the best.

Jeff
