Hello Jeff! I would like to ask you a question about your book to see if it will help me. I have a pretty decent background in Java. I have created and finished numerous projects and nearly mastered the syntax of the language while also understanding crucial ideas of Object Oriented Programming. After all of this, though, I still have not done any Android programming. I would like to find a book that not only helps to refresh my memory of Java concepts and design patterns, but that also helps me explore the world of Android while relating it to what I already know of Java. Do you think your book would be a great help to me? I'm very interested in getting off to a great start in Android and figure maybe your book is the right path to take! Thanks!

Hi Skye,

I believe that my book will help you. You will learn Java language features along with useful APIs for developing Android apps, and you will also receive an introduction to Android app development.

Chapter 1 introduces Java along with Android and Eclipse (one of the tools for building Android apps). The rest of the book largely focuses on Java until you get to Appendix C, which is distributed as a 96-page PDF file located in the book's code file -- see http://www.apress.com/9781430264545. Appendix C introduces Android app development in terms of tools, app architecture, and sample apps. I explain each app's source code and resources, and show how to build the app via command-line tools and Eclipse.

Chapter 16 includes a section on design patterns, and focuses on the Strategy pattern as an example.

All the best.

Jeff

I believe you have a vast experience in developing apps. You can further follow some android application developers who can prepare an strategy pattern for you in order for you to achieve what you want.
