I was hesitant to file these bugs:

https://netbeans.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=247484

https://java.net/jira/browse/GLASSFISH-21215

because it's hard for me to pin down what, exactly, the problem is. Should I include glassfish server logs? I don't really see how informative that would be. I don't know what to include to make the bug reports more useful.

It's hard for me to judge whether it's a bug, or my comprehension which is the problem.

The overall problem is this: once the appclient in the EAR for https://netbeans.org/kb/docs/javaee/entappclient.html is deployed, how is the JNLP file for that appclient generated? The documentation just says "click launch" from the Glassfish console, but that plain doesn't work -- because the JAR doesn't contain a manifest. There's something very odd about the whole thing, because the documentation makes it clear that it's a very simple task.

Does that rise to the level of being a bug?

the documentation:

Java Web Start
Java Web Start allows your application client to be easily launched and automatically downloaded and updated. It is enabled for all application clients by default. For more information, see Using Java Web Start.

and

Downloading and Launching an Application Client
If Java Web Start is enabled for your deployed application client, you can launch it for testing. Simply click on the Launch button next to the application client or application's listing on the App Client Modules page in the Administration Console.
