Is there anything in your life that you can simplify by creating a program or an application that you can use? Do you have a collection that needs to be catalogued, that could be searchable. Do you have an Android phone? If so you could create an app for it. There are many tutorials online and in books.

First: Welcome to JavaRanch Sakshi.

Your question is a bit difficult to answer, because we don't really know how far advanced you are, but a few general suggestions for you:

1. Pick something that interests you.

2. Don't make it too complex. For example, even if you like chess, you're not going to be writing Deep Blue II anytime soon.
Mastermind, on the other hand, can be quite a fun game to try.

3. I'd also avoid anything that requires networking at this stage.
We often get posts like "I want to write a chat room" in the beginners forum. Now I've been programming for 35 years (13 with Java) and I'm not sure I'd want to tackle a project like a chat room.

4. Unless GUIs are really the sort of thing that rocks your boat, I'd stick to a simple user interface to begin with - keyboard input and terminal (like the one you get with CMD in Windows or 'terminal' in Linux) display.
The problem with GUIs (especially things like Swing) is that they tend to be quite complex and verbose, so you spend all your time "getting the display right", rather than tackling a problem.

5. Google is your friend. Have you tried something like "suggestions for beginner projects in java"? I did, and I got at least 10 pages of results - including another thread from this site.

There are lots of threads like that on this site. Use our search link above. Try this forum and “Beginning Java” and “Jobs Discussion”

And welcome again

Hi, Sakshi! I am new to java too. But I've already done few small applications. As for beginning, I'd like to suggest you to make Tic-tac-toe game. It is really simple one, and you'll get nice practice with java OOP basics.
