Hi, I am wondering how important the Oracle Certification really is for Senior Developers when looking for a job. I am a freelancer right now, so I was never really interested in having a certification, but maybe one day I will move to another country and I will have to search for a job. Do you think that job givers will evaluate candidates based on certifications like this? Or do they actually give more importance to other things like past experience, attitude, software engineering and teamwork skills. So, in other words, I do understand that this certification is excellent for people who are relatively new to programming or to the java world, but is it really useful for someone who has already proven experience on advanced skills like software engineering and project management? I have read the former SCJP guide and it was extremely useful to make my skills better, but I never took the exam actually and nobody ever asked me about certifications... everybody was simply glad when I got the job done.
Thanks for you kind words. Kathy and I think that certification exams can really help you get a deeper understanding of your topic (like Java), than you typically get on the job. As far as helping in interviews, I've always thought that a certification is a tie-breaker.
