Hei!
I passed all three parts for OCMJEA 6:
1. 1Z0-807. First attempt I failed. Second - passed wit 80%.
2. Parts II and III (1Z0-865 and 1Z0-866) - passed. Score 151.

Now I struggle with submitting my course form to pearson vue...

Congratulations !

P.S. By coincidence I also failed 1st part on the first try, and passed on the second try with 80%

Thank you! I am really happy

After test failure I was very angry on myself and started reading The Java EE 6 Tutorial. I read it carefully.
Then I searched through google all the blogs related to OCMJEA. Read most of the topics in this forum (Architect Certification (SCEA/OCMJEA)).
Actually second try test was easier for me...

And one more thing: I am officially Oracle Certified Architect.
After some time all difficulties with course submitting and approval were solved.
And here I am... Moving towards TOGAF

I am at this point, close to completing the requirements for OCMJEA 6.

I have completed the project, its follow-up essay test, and the course. However, I have stalled at the multiple choice test. I have tried twice, coming very close on the second attempt. My last try was in mid-December.

First, I assume there are no time limits as to when this can be retaken, given the other parts are passed. Is that true? That is, is there a window (6 months, or whatever) during which I have to complete all parts?

Second, I got very close on the second attempt, but I am wondering if there is some basic thing I am doing wrong on these problems. Why would my score move up only 5 points after 3 months of study, unless I have some basic misconception? Any pointers would be welcome.

Thanks in advance.

So you done part 2/3 before part 1 (MC exam)?? Is that even possible?

Only the assignment and essay need to be done in 6-month time frame.

Yes, it is possible to do things in a different order. I did not want to keep trying to finish the test, when the project was really what I wanted to complete. So I went ahead and submitted it. Glad to know I can take my time and review things before attempting the test again.

Thanks for your reply.

I have passed IZO-807 and now on to IZO-865 and 866.

Any tips you could give me? :-)

What kind of problem/project is it? what should I study about? what UML software did you use?

Andres, congratulations on your progress thus far. I used Astah's free product. I have purchased a license since having completed the project, but the free one was plenty good enough. As for other tips, one thing I tried to be fanatical about (I'll never know if it was enough, actually), was to have no single point of failure on the deployment diagram. I think there is a pool of different projects, and when you get yours, it will be one of those. They let you include a document for assumptions. I got really verbose on that, going to great lengths to talk about why I worried more about this use case than that use case, etc. If you wish to study something, just make sure your UML is as accurate as possible. That being said, I have read from multiple sources that you need to limit your level of detail on the diagrams (things like not bothering with every little field and every little object, on the Class diagram). I think I did leave at times too much detail, simply to ensure that I had everything that was included in their included "focus group" diagram.

You will see what I mean about some of these things, when you get your assignment.

Good luck!

Hei.
What material have you used for preparing for multiple choice test?
Maybe you should change the resources you use?
This test is quite challenging because you need to read several books on different topics in order to prepare for it. There is no book (at least I did not find it last year) that would discuss all needed topics quite detailed in one place.

Inga,
Thanks for the reply. My resources include Java EE 6 Enterprise Architect Exam Guide; Sun Certified Enterprise Architect for Java EE Study Guide (2ed); a course on Enterprise Architecture from Oracle; Java EE Patterns by Adam Bien; The GoF book on Patterns; the Core J2EE Patterns; J2EE Antipatterns; Java Security 2ed (old one--and actually I started re-reading this after 2nd attempt). I also got one of the practice tests--EPractizeLabs.

Lately, I have been trying to focus on security, because I had difficulties in three security-related areas. I am not terribly impressed, BTW, with the EPractizeLabs material. You have to deal with strange grammatical errors (in something lengthy like this, it can be a hassle, although interpersonally things like that do not bother me), and even some wrong answers.

Do you have other suggestions?
Regards,

Someone recomended Bitter ejb yet.
I read the http://docs.oracle.com/javaee/6/tutorial/doc/ for some questions I remembered from first attempt .

I should get home sometime and to look what else I have Some of my resources are printed, some borrowed books. I think I will make a list of resources for the next exam so I could provide more concrete material. Now all I have is chaos

Thanks once again, Inga, for that input. I had seen that tutorial, however. I had finished the EJB certification (only that -- not JPA) before starting the OCMJEA one.

I have ejb, web components, web service certification... and still I have failed first time
I liked doing assignment, essay - piece of cake.
However test was somehow hardest for me. If you read and understood all these books I don't know what else I could advise you.

So, good luck next (and lets hope the last) time!

Maybe the "understood" part was lacking. Perhaps I need to read some of those things again. Or it could be I'm just not built for those kinds of questions. I still have not tried the WhizLabs mock questions, which I've heard are better than EPractizeLabs.

Congrats Inga!

Just a question, for the first part (the one that you've failed), did you make some mock tests like Whizlabs? What was your principal failure point to not achieve that? Can you share with us?

Thanks!

I tried free version of Whizlabs. I have nor good neither bad impression left. I usually don't spend money on such tests...

When I was back from exam I felt I passed. And when the results came, I didn't new what to study more and why I failed.

Later on I've done lots of reading and I understood that main reason for failure was lack of attention on details. And of course I needed some more knowledge

I have finally completed all parts of this: training, project, project-essay, and the proctored test. I passed the proctored test on the 3rd attempt. I got an 80% not unlike others on this thread.

What got me through this, I feel, was simply continuing to try and learn more, over time, and giving myself time to process all that reading I had done. I read the Amritendu De (which I had not done prior to the 2nd attempt), as well. That helped, although it is now rather dated, WRT the OCMJEA 6 test. I also purchased the WhizLabs test, which I think is better than the EPractizeLabs (certainly the questions were more clear in English).

Thanks for all your support.
