how to find a number of files downloaded to folder

I have written a program to download pdf files to sdcard folder.I need to count the downloaded files to that folder.So how can i get the current counter for downloaded files ?because there may be a file which is partially downloaded ?

As I recall, the downloading is handled by your own code - so it should be straightforward to keep a counter in your app, no?
