Web based Javac compiler needed please

+Pie Number of slices to send: Send
Hi - and thanks in advance.
I can no longer have Java installed on my computer at work - long ugly story - and I have no time or "bandwidth" to do my work with the Java Ranch nitpickers after work. I only take a minute here or there where I find myself totally without anything to do at all to create and revise my Lesson programs.

Someone here at work told me that there is a web based Java compiler where you don't have to have Java jdk actually installed on your computer.
Can someone please direct me to to one if they know of it?
Thank you,

Jessica

Googling for "Web based Java compiler" will find several quickly.

Is running JDK from an USB stick maybe an option?

I work in such a security based environment that no media are allowed to be connected to our laptops - even the fax machines make everything fuzzy now that they have stepped up security - continuous ramping.
So, no USB stick with jdk on it.
I have googled the web based compiler and executers, but most are REALLY slow in loading, some don't give you access to your compiled files - very messy and buggy.
I was hoping someone on this site would maybe have tried out one or two and had a recommendation.
I looked at Compilr.com (given by Lynda.com) but as soon as I registered, they wanted payment without any kind of trial.
It seems that my company has a license for Compilr but only for the tutorial part so I can't compile and run there either.

I am afraid the few web compilers I have tried have been very poor quality.

It would have been my guess, but it was worth a question.

Your being able to browse so freely as to be able to access web-based compilers is a potential security hole, it should be taken care of in the next round of the security policy updates :-(

Oh dear - ugh.
I WILL get around this.
I LOVE my Java nitpicking!

You might just get yourself a cheap netbook, if you're just writing toy programs and compiling from the command line as in for example, the cattle drive.

A lightweight computer might not support a thick IDE and web app development, but you should be able to get done what you need. Also doing it on your own computer would afford you the opportunity of working on it whenever you want.
Make yourself as serene as a flower, as a tree. And on wednesdays, as serene as this tiny ad:
