Hello There! Hope everyone is doing good today

So. I'll try to make this quick and concise.

I am trying to learn how to create a JAVA program that will buy something on an online store for me. Basically, I collect art and sometimes something goes on sale and sells out in millesconds, I know it's because others are using bots and programs like this and the only way I will ever be able to buy something I want is to create something like this.

I have learned enough to know that I probably want to use JAVA to create such a tool.

The APP will need to be able to rapidly search a single page of an online store for a term that I define. When the item appears in the store, I want it to buy that item with Credit Card and SHipping info that I also define. I need the whole process to happen, like, under a second or two.

I guess what I am looking for from you guys are your opinions and advice:

If I just want to learn enough to make this one application with this one purpose, how realistic do you think it is? Can I teach myself this in a weekend or is it complicated stuff? Like, how would you rate the complexity of an app like this?

Also, where would I even begin? haha.

Thanks for all your help in advance.

I would say the answers to these three questions are

1) No
2) Yes
3) high

Hello, and welcome to the Ranch!

I notice that you have posted this exact question on a number of other forums, namely this one and this one. While this is OK by us, we do ask that you BeForthrightWhenCrossPostingToOtherSites (<-- have a read of this article) and let us know where else you've posted your question.

You found the only two other places. I posted 3 total

Thanks for the answers.

Let me ask another question and I apologize if offering to hire help on here is taboo but if I offered like $500ish dollars would that be an fair, more than fair, or insulting offer to ask someone to create this for me and would anyone here do it?

If it's not homework, you can always ask. We do have a "jobs offered" forum where you could post this.

as to "is $500 fair?"...the answer is "maybe". The specs are pretty vague right now. You've sort of said "I want to hire a carpenter to build me a house". How much it costs depends on whether you are really asking for a 1-room shack, or the Taj Mahal.

The devil is always in the details.

In "Fred form":
1. It's generally frowned on in the Java forums, but there is a 'Jobs Offered' forum in the 'Careers' section where you might be able to post your offer; but I don't know the exact rules for that forum.
2. Dunno. As others have said: not enough information.
3. I certainly wouldn't be insulted if somebody offered me 500 bucks. Whether I accepted it or not would depend on the answer to question 2.
4. Someone might; but not me I'm afraid.

And just one final point: you should be VERY careful about getting someone to write software that transmits Credit Card credentials. I certainly wouldn't let anyone I didn't know very well, or who works for a bonded company, do anything like that for me.
