what Skills needed to develop a mini core java project  RSS feed

Hi All,
I have core java knowledge , i would like to you what are the areas i need to know to build a core java related real time project.

My friends say to have database knowledge to create a handle to it, apache server to expose your backend code to frnt end , like was GUI knowledge.

Can someone please provide me what all skills i need to learn to build a small project.

Also please provide pointers to small live core java projects.

For that you need just Java.

Beyond that, you need to know exactly what other features your application is going to have before you can decide on what technology you need to employ to achieve it.

"a small project" is not really a spec. That means different things to different people. Even something like a bowling score keeper could be:

a stand alone app that runs on a single PC - no GUI, no data base, no client - server communication

or

a client - server based model that runs on an central pc, that receives input from the pin setters, and sends display information to each pod between lanes.

or

the above client/server model that also maintains a database of teams, player, records, standings, etc.
