Hi there,
i was reading in java tutorial, that Java virtual machine is available on many different operating systems. So do we need separate Java runtime environment(JRE) to run a program??? if JVM is already present on Operating Systems.
Thanks in advance.

The JVM is available for many OS, but it doesn't necessarily come with the OS - that's why you can download it from Oracle, so you can install it yourself. The JVM comes in two shapes: just the JRE (for running Java code) and the JDK (for developers who need tools like compiler and such, which also includes the JRE). See #18 in the http://www.coderanch.com/how-to/java/JavaBeginnersFaq
