The OCA 8 exam is now released. Beta scores are available the end of the month.
If you are thinking about taking this certification, note that the OCPJP 8 (part 2 of the exam) has not been released yet. There will be a beta sometime this year. If you take the OCAJP 8, and want to get a professional level certification, you need to take the OCPJP 8 (not the OCPJP 7) exam.
So who should take the OCA 8 (rather than the OCA 7):
1) If you aren't in a big hurry to get the OCP level cert and want the most current cert.
2) If you plan to take the beta of OCP 8 when it comes out and want the most current cert.
3) If you don't plan to advance to the OCP cert and want the most current cert.
4) Any other scenarios?
Interesting to note: the exam details differ from the OCA 7 exam. Although duration is exactly the same (120 minutes), you must answer 7 questions more in the OCA 8 exam; and you must also answer more questions correctly (65% vs 63).
If you doubt between taking OCA 7 or 8 and you plan taking the OCPJP exam as well (at short notice), this thread might be very useful. In short: you can not combine two different version certifications.
