Hello Everyone,
I am attempting to build a website using the playframework (not really important). Play calls for the installation of JDK and JRE. After I installed them I put everything in the same path c:\Program Files\Java\(respective items). I am very new to programming and I have always had the JDK and JRE installed for me so I don't know what I'm doing. The problem is that anytime I use a command in the cmd such as; java, java -version, jdk -version, jre -version, etc, i get the same message.

' java' is not recognized as an internal of external command, operable program or batch file.

I get this message for every command i try to use.

Thanks for any help,
Josh

You generally don't need both as the JDK comes with a JRE.
To get those commands to be recognised you need to add the bin directory of the JDK installation to the PATH environment variable. After setting the PATH variable make sure you close and reopen any command prompt you want to run the commands from.

Welcome to the Ranch.

The JDK installation instructions explain how to set the PATH.
